T1 lines have been the standard in reliable Internet connectivity for small and medium businesses for more than a decade. This is because they are fast and affordable while also offering the security of being dedicated to your business.
The internet speed of a T1 line is 1.54 Mbps. T1 lines are symmetrical which means that the upload and download speeds are the same.
If you've felt the affects of oversubscribed Internet (when the cable companies offer 10 mbps of speed to 2000 homes supported by one 50 mbps connection), you know how congestion feels from an Internet perspective. A T1 is not oversubscribed. So while the speed of 1.54 doesn't seem great when compared to DSL or cable, a T1 line is dedicated bandwidth. You get what you pay for both for download and upload speed. You don't share your T1 with anyone else.
When 1.54 Mbps is not enough capacity, the next step up in speed is typically an NxT1, which bundles multiple T1s for added bandwidth up to 12 Mbps. Ethernet-over-copper (EoC) is another technology that leverages bonded T1 lines to deliver high-bandwidth speeds. EoC can deliver up to 20 Mbps.
Still not enough? Broadband has a wide selection of business Internet to meet the needs of any business.
A T1 line provides a reliable and consistent 1.54 Mbps of internet access. Because the bandwidth is not over-subscribed, a T1 can support an office up to 30 employees using any of the following:
A T1 line is directly connected from your office to the Internet Service Provider translating into more security for you and your customers. T1s also operate under a Service Level Agreement (SLA) which guarantees a certain level of up-time, usually 99.99% - which means you will be down less than 52 minutes on average per year.
For these reasons, T1s are typically more expensive than DSL and cable options, though the price has dropped significantly over the past decade. A T1 usually costs between $300 and $600 with the price largely determined by how close you are to the carrier's central office. Broadband works with the largest carriers to ensure that our customers always have the best pricing.
